Faulty Clock Signal Component Has Cisco Partners Concerned

5:06

We sat down with CRN.com reporter, Mark Haranas. He gave his insight into Cisco, and their recently disclosed news that a number of their most popular products (including routers, switches, and firewalls) contain a faulty clock signal component. The malfunctioning component causes the products to degrade over time. Cisco has given a time frame of roughly 18 months before these products might begin to fail. Naturally, this realization has caused a number of issues among partners, specifically surrounding the way Cisco is handling the mishap. Ultimately, the problem itself was not created by Cisco. The responsibility, as reported by Haranas, is falling on third party vendors that have technology directly integrated with Cisco's devices. The company is saying that even though the prediction has been made that many of these products will soon malfunction, they will not be held responsible for replacing them. Partners are becoming increasingly more concerned knowing that their customers will soon be without properly functioning equipment. In an effort to get ahead of the impending failures, partners are scrambling to solve the issue - and they're spending their own money to do so. An uplifting piece of news came when Cisco announced that they will replace a product for free if it is under warranty or if it has a valid service contract. They are also offering to replace these soon-to-be malfunctioning products if customers opt to sign up for a new services contract.
